A rejected or pending KYC check blocks deposits, trading or withdrawals until it is fixed. Most rejections come from a handful of avoidable problems with the photo, the name or the document. This guide lists what each of the four exchanges asks for, the official rejection reasons, how many times you can retry, and how long the review usually takes.

The quick fix

Read the rejection reason first. Every exchange shows it on the verification page or sends it by email. Then fix that exact problem: a sharper photo, a valid document, or a name that matches the ID letter for letter. Do not resubmit the same files in a loop: Binance, Bitget and Gate all cap the number of daily attempts, and hitting the cap means waiting 24 hours.

The three problems behind most rejections

  • Image quality: blur, glare, cropped corners, screenshots or scans instead of a live photo.
  • Mismatched data: the name typed in the form does not match the document, or special characters in the name field.
  • Document status: an expired ID, or a proof of address that is too old or does not show the full name and address.

Before you resubmit, in order

  1. Open the verification page and read the exact rejection reason.
  2. Check the document is valid and not expired.
  3. Retake the photo: flat surface, all four corners visible, no glare.
  4. Type the name exactly as printed on the ID.
  5. Resubmit once, then wait for the result before trying again.

What each exchange asks for

All four ask for a government-issued ID and a face check. The differences are in the extra levels and the address proof.

ExchangeBasic levelHigher levelWhat the higher level is for
Binance“Verified”: ID (passport, ID card or driver’s license, by country) + liveness face check“Verified Plus”Higher fiat limits and more features; some regions, such as the EU, ask for proof of address (third-party description)
BitgetLevel 1: issuing country + ID + face recognitionLevel 2: proof of address from the last three months, same name as Level 1 (third-party description)Only some products, such as the Bitget Card; does not change withdrawal limits
BybitLevel 1 (Standard): ID + face recognition (third-party description)Level 2 (Advanced): proof of address from the last 3 monthsHigher withdrawal limits (third-party description)
GateBasic: name, nationality, basic detailsAdvanced: ID + face/liveness check; separate address verificationFull trading and withdrawals

Checked November 8, 2026; the official pages are the reference.

What happens if you skip it

  • Binance: without “Verified”, the account can only withdraw, cancel orders, close positions and redeem. No deposits, trading or buying.
  • Bitget: without Level 1, crypto withdrawals are blocked (third-party description of the official policy).
  • Bybit: since May 2023, there is no no-KYC limit; at least Level 1 is needed for full use (third-party description).
  • Gate: without identity verification, withdrawals and trading functions are limited. No official figure for the unverified limit was found.

Official rejection reasons, exchange by exchange

These are the reasons each exchange lists in its own help pages.

ExchangeCommon rejection reasons (official)
BinanceBlurry document, information that does not match, failed face check
BitgetBlurry document, wrong or missing information; Bitget lists three main reasons
BybitProof of address older than 3 months; the same person already has another verified account (one verified account per person); proof of address that does not show both name and full address
GateBlurry image, glare or cropped corners, expired document, edited image, screenshot or scan, special characters in the name field, name mismatch

Problems the tables do not show

  • The name order: some IDs print the surname first. The form usually wants the name exactly as the document shows it, so copy it, do not reorder it.
  • Old documents with a new name: a document issued before a name change will not match the bank account or the form.
  • Address proof on Bybit: an ID can double as proof of address only if it shows both the name and the full address.

So what to do: compare the document and the form field by field before you press submit.

How to resubmit, and how many tries you get

Each exchange has its own retry rules. Ignoring them can lock verification for a day.

ExchangeHow to resubmitRetry limit
BinanceFix the reason shown in the rejection notice, then submit againUp to 10 attempts per day; too many rejections on the same day locks the request for 24 hours
BitgetCheck the reason, fix it (sharper image, valid document), submit againUp to 5 attempts within 24 hours; after that, wait 24 hours
BybitRead the reason (sent to the registered email, or under “Identity Verification”), add what is missing, click “Verify Now”Not found in official pages
GateRead the feedback, fix the issue, submit againUp to 3 attempts per day for the same level

Taking a photo that passes

  1. Put the document on a dark, flat surface.
  2. Use daylight or a bright lamp from the side, not from above, to avoid glare.
  3. Keep all four corners inside the frame. Do not crop.
  4. Use the exchange’s camera screen, not a photo from the gallery. Screenshots and scans are a listed rejection reason on Gate.
  5. For the selfie, remove glasses and hats, and face the camera straight on.

How long the review takes, by the exchanges’ own words

ExchangeOfficial review time
BinanceUsually a few hours, no more than 2 business days; after resubmitting, about 10 minutes to 24 hours (address verification: 1 to 2 business days)
BitgetUsually within 60 minutes; another official page says 1 business day. If it takes longer than 60 minutes, Bitget suggests opening a ticket with the User ID
BybitAbout 15 to 20 minutes after resubmission
GateGate’s pages disagree: “usually within 48 hours”, “automatic review in minutes, up to 1 business day”, “half an hour to 12 hours” and, for the EU, “half an hour to 48 hours”. A failed face match moves the case to manual review, which can take days

For Gate, the time shown on the verification screen during your own application is the most reliable guide.

Mistakes that make verification worse

MistakeResultWhat to do instead
Submitting again and again with the same photoDaily limit reached, 24-hour waitFix the stated reason first, then submit once
Using a nickname or shortened nameName mismatchCopy the name exactly as printed
Opening a second account to “start over”On Bybit, an existing verified account is itself a rejection reasonFix the first application
Editing the photo for brightnessEdited images are a rejection reason on GateRetake the photo in better light
Sending documents through chat or email linksRisk of phishingUpload only inside the official app or site

Checklist before you press submit

  1. The document is valid, unexpired and fully in frame.
  2. The name in the form matches the document exactly.
  3. No screenshots, scans or edited images.
  4. You know the retry limit of that exchange.
  5. You know the official review time, so you know when to open a ticket.

FAQ

Why does a KYC verification get rejected?

The most common official reasons are a blurry or cropped document, an expired ID, a name that does not match, a failed face check, or an edited image. Each exchange shows the reason on its verification page or by email.

How many KYC retries are allowed in one day?

Binance allows up to 10 attempts per day, Bitget up to 5 in 24 hours, and Gate up to 3 per day for the same level. Bybit's retry limit was not found in its official pages.

How long does KYC review take?

Official estimates differ: Binance says usually a few hours and no more than 2 business days, Bitget usually within 60 minutes, Bybit about 15 to 20 minutes after resubmission. Gate's own pages give several different times.

Can the same ID verify a second account?

On Bybit, no: one person can verify only one account, and an existing verified account is a listed rejection reason. Other exchanges have their own rules, so check before opening a second account.
