Is MEXC Safe in 2026? US Order, Licences and Withdrawals

Is MEXC safe? What weighs on it in 2026: the FinCEN order, no MiCA licence, the Dutch exit, a pending review in Brazil and the state of withdrawals.

“Is MEXC safe?” became a common search after November 6, 2026, when the US Treasury cut the exchange off from the US financial system. This page does not give a yes or no. It lays out the verifiable facts and the gaps, so the decision about acceptable risk stays with you.

Where MEXC stands on November 8, 2026

  • United States: FinCEN barred US financial institutions from processing transfers involving MEXC Global. The order applies 30 days after Federal Register publication.
  • European Union: no MiCA licence. MEXC is leaving the Netherlands.
  • Brazil: licence application “under review” at the central bank, no decision.
  • Withdrawals: no official pause; third parties reported USDT congestion.
  • Hacks in 2026: none came up in the sources reviewed for this article.

The risks that weigh most

  1. Access risk, not hack risk. The 2026 problem is not a wallet theft but the chance that banking and payment partners walk away from MEXC.
  2. Thin regulatory cover. Without MiCA in the EU or a final licence elsewhere, the protection a local regulator would offer is not there.
  3. Little public data. Proof of reserves, a user protection fund and a full licence list did not show up in the sources reviewed.

Each row is unpacked below.

The US order and what it says about MEXC

FinCEN alleges MEXC moved at least US$16 billion in illicit funds between May 2021 and May 2026. About US$1.5 billion of that is tied to Russia-related sanctions evasion, including US$232 million directly with sanctioned entities. Another US$22 million or so is tied to Iran and North Korea. The rest is described as cybercrime and scam proceeds.

These are allegations. MEXC replied on X that it is reviewing the order with legal and compliance and will engage with FinCEN.

What the order does: it bars US banks, broker-dealers and money transmitters from processing transfers involving MEXC Global. What it does not do: close the exchange or ban customers in other countries. For users elsewhere the effect is indirect, through partners. The details are in the guide to the FinCEN order’s impact.

In practice: the order measures money-laundering and sanctions risk, not how well wallets are secured. Those are different risks, and both matter for anyone holding an idle balance.

Licences: EU, Netherlands and Brazil

European Union (MiCA)

As of November 5, 2026, MEXC was not on the register of MiCA-authorised providers, according to a tracker of ESMA’s official register. In April 2026 the exchange called a licence a “strategic priority”. No evidence of a formal application in any member state was found.

Since the MiCA transition period ended on July 1, 2026, platforms without a licence face limits on serving EU users. Check your national regulator’s warnings list.

Netherlands

The Dutch regulator AFM found that MEXC served consumers without MiCA authorisation. MEXC suspended fiat services for Dutch users on March 20, 2026, set October 31, 2026 as the deadline to withdraw assets, and scheduled the final shutdown for November 16, 2026. MEXC itself pointed Dutch users to Bybit EU, which is MiCA-licensed.

Brazil

On the list the Banco Central do Brasil published on November 6, 2026, MEXC appears as “under review” (Em exame). The central bank stresses that being on the list is not a licence. No decision date has been published.

In practice: MEXC’s licence gap is widest in the EU. In Brazil it sits at the same formal stage as Binance, Bitget, Bybit and Gate.

Withdrawals today: two versions

SourceWhat it says
MEXC, official (November 6)Operating normally; user assets are safe
MEXC’s CEO (November 7, reported by third parties)Withdrawals are up but orderly; an independent review of anti-money-laundering controls has started
Trade outlet (November 6–7)USDT withdrawals saw congestion and delays; no official pause

Both can be true at once. The way to settle it for your own account is to test: a small withdrawal on the network you use, timed.

In practice: if the test takes far longer than usual, save the date, the transaction hash and a screenshot. They help with any later complaint.

What the sources do not show

An honest assessment also shows what is missing. Up to November 8, 2026, the sources reviewed did not include:

  • a MEXC proof-of-reserves figure;
  • the size of any user protection fund;
  • a full list of MEXC licences outside the EU, Brazil and the Netherlands;
  • a decision date from Brazil’s central bank.

One more point, reported by third-party outlets: the blockchain analytics firm Elliptic removed a “special risk category” label from MEXC. No official explanation of the timing, or of any link to the US order, was found.

In practice: if any of these is decisive for you, look for it on MEXC’s official site before depositing.

Questions to answer before deciding

QuestionWhy it matters
How much of the balance sits idle on the exchange?Idle balances are what withdrawal delays hit
Do you use something only MEXC lists? If not, the extra risk buys nothing
Do deposits and withdrawals rely on a payment partner?Partners are the most exposed link
Is MEXC licensed where you live?Without a local licence, there is no regulator to turn to
Is a self-custody exit route already set up?A ready exit path lowers the chance of getting stuck

Warning signs to watch

An official withdrawal pause

If MEXC announces a pause on a coin or network, the picture changes. As of November 8, 2026 that had not happened.

Unusual withdrawal fees

MEXC charges a fixed fee per network and may adjust it when the network is congested. A fee far above the usual level on the withdrawal screen signals pressure on the network or the queue.

Payment partners disappearing

If the option to buy or sell with cards or bank transfers vanishes or switches provider, the order’s indirect effect has arrived.

Offers of a “guaranteed withdrawal”

Moments of panic bring scams that promise faster withdrawals in exchange for a fee or a password. Official withdrawals happen on the “Withdraw” page inside your own account, with your own verification codes. Never share a password, 2FA code or recovery phrase with anyone.

FAQ

Is MEXC legit?

There is no single seal of trust. In 2026 three facts weigh on it: the FinCEN order cutting it off from the US financial system, no MiCA licence in the EU, and a licence application still under review in Brazil. How much risk is acceptable is a personal call.

Is MEXC blocking withdrawals?

MEXC has not announced a withdrawal pause and says it operates normally. A third-party outlet reported USDT withdrawal congestion right after the US order. Test with a small amount before withdrawing the rest.

Is MEXC available in the US or Canada?

MEXC does not serve US residents. The four exchanges compared on this site (Binance, Bitget, Bybit and Gate) do not serve US or Canadian residents either.

Does MEXC publish proof of reserves?

The sources Satovela reviewed up to November 8, 2026 did not include a MEXC proof-of-reserves figure. Check the exchange's official site directly.
